“MANADA" ——南美厄瓜多尔艺术家Tomás Carpio个人展览,将于2024年6月9日在景德镇陶瓷大学龙泉研究院举办开幕仪式,展览持续至8月8日。本次展览甄选了南美厄瓜多尔艺术家Tomás Carpio在景德镇创作的22件陶瓷动物雕塑作品。他的作品不仅是对粘土的深情演绎,更是对陶瓷艺术无限可能性的探索与体现,它们植根于安第斯文化和厄瓜多尔土著文化的深厚土壤,与龙泉青瓷——中国陶瓷艺术的瑰宝,形成了一次跨越大洋的艺术对话。这些精美的陶艺作品,如同架起的一座桥梁,连接着南美与龙泉,让两地的陶瓷艺术在相互尊重与借鉴中焕发新的生命力。
"MANADA"—A solo exhibition by South American Ecuadorian artist Tomás Carpio will hold its opening ceremony on June 9th, 2024, at the Longquan Research Institute of Jingdezhen Ceramic University, and the exhibition will continue until August 8th. This exhibition features a selection of 22 ceramic animal sculptures created by Tomás Carpio in Jingdezhen. His works are not only a heartfelt interpretation of clay but also an exploration and embodiment of the infinite possibilities of ceramic art. They are deeply rooted in Andean culture and Ecuadorian indigenous traditions, forming a transoceanic artistic dialogue with Longquan celadon—a treasure of Chinese ceramic art. These exquisite ceramic pieces serve as a bridge, connecting South America with Longquan, bringing new vitality to the ceramic arts of both regions through mutual respect and learning.

在盛夏的热烈阳光下,我们轻启艺术的大门,迎接一场跨越山海的陶瓷艺术盛宴。在这个多元而自由的世界里,我们在全球化的高度下俯仰审视,以独特的视角去探索、去演绎,开启一场富有哲学深度的关于文化、集体、和存在的对话。
景德镇陶瓷大学龙泉研究院通过举办国际陶瓷艺术交流展,旨在搭建起龙泉青瓷文化与国际陶瓷文化交流、青瓷从业者与国内外陶瓷艺术家相互学习的新平台。我们在这里分享国内外优秀艺术家的创作成果,感受不同的创作理念和表现形式,同时丰富城市的文化生活,深化学术共建与艺术精神共融,使得跨越时空与地域的对话在艺术的殿堂中娓娓展开。
本次国际陶艺交流展甄选了南美厄瓜多尔艺术家Tomás Carpio在景德镇驻场期间创作的22件优秀陶瓷艺术作品。他从当地的动物和神话中汲取灵感,并创造了植根于安第斯文化和厄瓜多尔土著文化的新象征。作品呈现了想象中的生物,是以各种神话、仪式和幻想文学为核心的主题作品。跨越时空,无论是何种地理文化,动物一直是主导角色,它们被奉为神明,被赋予伟大的特质、权力与力量,常出现在宗教仪式、复杂的神话以及奇幻文学中。
展览名称“MANADA”是西班牙语,在中文里意为“牧群”。在这里,“牧群”不仅仅是一群简单存在的生物,而是人类想象力的体现,是一个无视自然造物法则并超越日常生活实体的解构与重组。此外,“牧群”一词还唤起了凝聚力、归属感和集体运动的形象,是一个在团结中找到力量的社群,代表着通过合作和相互保护的生存。
如上所释,此次展览展示了一组全新的“兽群画像”,不同于我们寻常所见物种,而涉及种类繁多的“虚构生命体”,每件作品都纳入了他个性化的寓言图鉴中,也反映了他对奇幻和神秘的探索,是一次于中国在地文化的视角下对他的兽皮书系列作品的扩充。
南美著名作家Julio Cortázar在小说中有这样的描写:“是时候多给思想加大火力,用它寻求的幽默、偏爱的荒诞怪异…多亏了寓言存在,那里充满了被打破的常规、四肢处长出了翅膀,眼睛却长在牙齿上。”
望这场视觉对话启发着艺术家们走向更为内涵丰富、充满温度的创作之路,架构起一座龙泉青瓷与世界对话的艺术桥梁,以本民族的优秀文化为背景,编织出跨越国界的友谊之网,为龙泉青瓷当代艺术界提供新的思路与启示。

Under the fervent summer sun, we gently open the door to art, welcoming a feast of ceramic art that spans mountains and seas. In this diverse and free world, we examine with a unique perspective under the height of globalization, exploring and interpreting, initiating a philosophically profound dialogue about culture, community, and existence.
The Longquan Research Institute of Jingdezhen Ceramic University aims to build a new platform for the exchange of Longquan celadon culture and international ceramic art, and for mutual learning between celadon practitioners and ceramic artists from home and abroad, through hosting the International Ceramic Art Exchange Exhibition. Here, we share the creative achievements of outstanding artists from home and abroad, learn different creative concepts and forms of expression, enrich the cultural life of the city, deepen academic cooperation and the integration of artistic spirit, and allow dialogue across time and space to unfold gracefully in the hall of art.
The International Ceramic Art Exchange Exhibition has selected 22 outstanding ceramic art works created by the South American artist Tomás Carpio during his residency in Jingdezhen. He draws inspiration from local animals and myths, creating new symbols rooted in Andean and indigenous Ecuadorian culture. The works present imagined creatures, with themes centered around various myths, rituals, and fantasy literature. Across time and space, regardless of geographical culture, animals have always been leading characters, revered as deities, endowed with great qualities, power, and strength, often appearing in religious rituals, complex myths, and fantasy literature.
The exhibition's title "MANADA" is Spanish for "herd." Here, "herd" is not just a group of simply existing creatures but a manifestation of human imagination, a deconstruction and recombination that defies the laws of nature and transcends the entities of everyday life. Moreover, the term "herd" also evokes the image of cohesion, belonging, and collective movement, a community that finds strength in unity, representing survival through cooperation and mutual protection.
As explained above, this exhibition presents a new set of "beast portraits," different from the species we usually see, involving a variety of "fictional life forms." Each piece is included in his personalized bestiary, reflecting his exploration of the fantastic and mysterious, and is an expansion of his beast scroll series from the perspective of Chinese local culture.
The famous South American writer Julio Cortázar described in his novel: "… It is good to continue multiplying mental powder kegs, the humor that seeks and favors the most absurd mutations [...] It is good that there exist bestiaries filled with transgressions, with legs where there should be wings and eyes placed in the place of teeth."
May this visual dialogue inspire artists to embark on a path of richer and warmer creations, building an artistic bridge between Longquan celadon and the world. With our nation's excellent culture as the backdrop, let's weave a web of friendship that crosses borders, providing new ideas and insights for the contemporary art scene of Longquan celadon.

Tomás Carpio's artistic career is marked by a profound connection with clay, which is the primary element of his creations. His first encounter with ceramics was in a practical workshop at school, igniting a lifelong pursuit of this craft from a young age. This passion led him to study art at the University of Cuenca, and later, he specialized in ceramics and sculpture at the Faculty of Fine Arts of the Basque Country University in Spain. For over 20 years, he has been immersed in the world of ceramics, continuously exploring new artistic realms and sharing his creative expression and passion. His works have been exhibited in numerous solo and group exhibitions, establishing him as an exemplar in the Spanish contemporary ceramics scene. His style is unique and distinct, characterized by the creation of countless fantastical creatures, each piece becoming part of his personal bestiary. Through his sculptures, he has created new symbols rooted in Andean culture and Ecuadorian indigenous traditions. These creatures exist beyond the material realm, always present in the collective consciousness. They never disappear but continuously mutate and combine into new forms. This has always been an essential tool in the artist's work, providing endless possibilities for creation.
